Choose your farming setup and inspect seed cost, seed returns and harvest value together. Watering changes the seed-return scenario and consumes focus. A crop with a high sale price can still be a poor choice when replacement seeds are expensive.

Use the intended seed source and market prices. Owning a seed removes an immediate purchase, but using or retaining it still has value. Compare recurring profit separately from the initial expense of acquiring the island and setting up plots.

Suppose an illustrative plot cycle produces a harvest worth 5,000 silver before tax, consumes a 3,000-silver seed and returns 0.8 seeds on average. Expected replacement cost is 3,000 × (1 − 0.8) = 600. With 4% harvest selling tax, expected profit is 4,800 − 600 = 4,200 before other expenses.

You still need the initial seed, and an expected 0.8 return does not mean receiving a fractional seed every cycle. These teaching values are not a crop yield table. Use the seed yield and watering bonus shown for the chosen crop in AU.

If a hypothetical watering choice increases expected seed returns from 0.8 to 1.1, the extra seed value is 0.3 × 3,000 = 900 silver. At 100 focus, that is 9 additional silver per focus. Compare that increment with what the same focus could add in another activity.

Avoid counting returned seeds twice as both a replacement-cost reduction and extra sales revenue. If you use the harvest in cooking or brewing, compare its market value with the additional production margin instead of treating your own ingredients as free.
