How to use the refining cost and focus calculator
The examples below use illustrative inputs to explain this tool. They are not live prices or game recipe tables. Check the selected recipe and in-game settings before using a result.
Include the lower-tier ingredient
Choose a refining family to load its recipes. Resource city supplies input observations; product city supplies output observations. Inspect both ingredients where a recipe requires raw resources and a lower-tier refined product. Gathering a resource yourself does not make its economic cost zero: using it gives up the alternative of selling it.
Match return rate, focus, daily bonus and station settings to the actual production scenario. A city selected as a price source does not pay for transporting materials there. Check the rate displayed by the calculator against your in-game refining window.
Work through the cost of one output
For illustration, assume an output consumes two raw units at 120 silver and one lower-tier product at 300. Assume both ingredients are returnable, a 30% return rate and a final station charge of 20. Expected cost is (2 × 120 + 300) × 0.70 + 20 = 398 silver. At a 500-silver selling price and 4% tax, net revenue is 480 and profit is 82.
The initial ingredients and station charge still cost 560 silver. A higher-tier resource price alone would miss the 300-silver lower-tier ingredient. These invented values explain the arithmetic; actual recipes, output quantities, station charges and returns come from the selected refining row.
Measure what spending focus adds
Compare the same recipe with and without focus while keeping market prices fixed. If profit changes from 82 to 120 and the focused craft uses 50 focus, the additional return from focus is (120 − 82) ÷ 50 = 0.76 silver per focus. Dividing the full 120 by 50 answers a different question: total focused profit per focus.
AU’s profit per 10k focus ranking describes the modeled focused production. Consider the no-focus alternative, available capital and market demand as well. High efficiency cannot make an unlimited batch sell, and zero focus consumption cannot define a profit-per-focus ratio.
